Understanding Preservatives: Why We Keep Them Out of GoodGrains

A few years ago, I was packing my son’s school lunch when he said, "Mama, why does this store-bought snack last so long, but your homemade ones go bad so quickly?" That question got me thinking..

The answer? Preservatives..

What Are Preservatives, Really??

Preservatives are chemicals added to food to increase shelf life, prevent spoilage, and maintain texture. Sounds useful, right? But here’s the catch — many common preservatives like BHA, BHT, and sodium benzoate have been linked to health concerns, including digestive issues, allergies, and even hormone disruption.

I started reading labels more carefully and was shocked to find them in everything — biscuits, snacks, packaged bread, and even so-called “healthy” breakfast cereals. That’s when I made the decision: No preservatives in my family’s food.

How We Keep GoodGrains Products Preservative-Free

At GoodGrains, we choose fresh, natural ingredients over chemicals. Here’s how we do it:

  • Natural Sweeteners – Instead of refined sugar and artificial preservatives, we use jaggery and dates.
  • Minimal Processing – Less processing means more natural nutrition and flavor.
  • Smaller Batches – Our products have shorter shelf lives, but that’s how real food should be!

Healthy food isn’t about restriction; it’s about choosing better options. And trust me, once you make the switch, there’s no going back!
